Mission of the Institute.
The mission of the Institute of Transportation Management is to provide
management education and research for public and private sector
organizations involved with transportation and related operations.
Background. The
Institute of Transportation Management (ITM) is a service oriented
entity of the College of Business of Colorado State University. Staffed
by faculty from Colleges within the University and practitioners from
public agencies and private corporations the Institute provides a broad
base of services for a wide variety of clientele. Major clients include
State and Federal agencies, not-for-profit organizations and
corporations.
Research Activities.
Examples of current research projects include: |

Field observations and data analysis of seat belt
use for the State of Colorado's Department of Transportation.

Development and implementation of a problem
analysis design and methodology for highway safety and economic
studies focused upon the appropriate investment levels for safety
programs.

Tracking success of safety education programs for
the Department of Public Health and Environment.

Project management and oversight for the
development of a state safety management system as required by ISTEA.

Management audits and inter-organizational surveys
can be performed through the Institute in order to gather data to assist
in managerial decision making.
Training Activities.
The Institute of Transportation Management has extensive experience in
developing curriculum and delivering instruction in a broad range of
management training and development programs for transportation
professionals. The Institute's faculty has conducted programs in basic
management and leadership for new supervisors, as well as more
sophisticated educational efforts for middle managers and top level
executives focusing upon such topics as total quality management,
decision making and the effective management of change. Other topic
areas include work force diversity, effective communications, conflict
management, and personnel practices.
Tribal Technical Assistance Program
The
Tribal Technical Assistance Program began in 1992 with the introduction
of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991. The
goals of the Program are to assist American Indian Tribal governments by
increasing their technical capabilities in transportation and to expand
their workforces to effectively address their transportation needs. The
TTAP program is financially supported by the Federal Highway
Administration (FWHA), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). ITM's TTAP
contract outlines research, training services and other deliverables
related to transportation issues for the tribes located in Colorado, New
Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. |
